San Juan River - Midday on the river

The San Juan River

Early afternoon in the Lower Canyon. The river runs very nearly through the Four Corners, the place where four states (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah) all share a common state border. Although relatively high in altitude (over 4,000' above sea level), the San Juan is still an unimaginable hot place in the summer. The key to a good trip on the San Juan is to keep hydrated and bring something for shade.   June 1995
